Russia Stops Arms Shipments to Syria

Russia has announced that it will make new shipping arms or weapons to Syria.

According their spokesman, Russia will wait to continue shipments until the "situation stabilizes".

With the wording of the statement, it is unclear if Russia will be halting all shipments, or just not be making new ones.

They may still continue with some of the contracts already in place.

Current contracts between the two countries are worth several billion dollars.

International pressure has continued to mount against Russian arms deals, due to the civil war that has been raging for sixteen months in Syria.

Some see the Russian decision as a reason to believe Russia will move towards agreement with the UN on what to do in the strife torn country.

Russian, and Chinese, support of the Assad government has been one of the key factors holding back international response to the conflict.
