With their message of hate, they show the truest form of hypocrisy. They twist Bible verses to fit the meanings they wish upon them. But to them I have but one clear and simple message. Matthew 22:36-39 "Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
Jesus, and through Him God the Father, made it very clear how we were to treat others, with love. Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, with a side of caring. Jesus showed this throughout His life. He took care of those in need with His own time and energy, He visited the sick, He hung out with the tax collectors, He showed mercy to prostitutes. In short He loved and cared for everyone (note: not demanding that the government do it for Him). The only times we see that Jesus became angry or lashed out were times such as the temple being used as a market place. Righteous indignation, has it's place, it is not meant to be an every day thing that consumes our life.
Who's side do you think He would've really been on Westboro's message of hate or His own of love for all? Westboro wold've protested Jesus for healing. They would've seen those He helped as deserving of their illness and troubles. Westboro would've been on the same message then, that God hates everyone, and is punishing you for what is happening in the world around you. Not the message of Jesus, one of which God cares for you no matter your past or circumstances.
Oh my gosh, I had't heard Westboro was going to be there! As you said, who woulda thunk Occupy would do something useful?? This is the most heartbreaking story and for Westboro to add to it is just SOOO wrong, as they are all the time. And it breaks my heart and is SO embarrassing to say these people are fellow Kansans. Its been years since living there, but family is still there and growing up there makes me FOREVER a KS girl. THOSE people aren't good Kansans OR Christian. There's NOTHING Christian about them.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading/commenting to this I contacted Susan Powell's best friend on Twitter. I have followed and communicated with her since the beginning of their nightmare. I asked her if Westboro showed up and she said no, they didn't show. I've read they don't show to many of the function they threaten. They are VERY small in number and don't have the resources to travel all over the country anymore. They simply like the attention and media coverage. Let's continue to snuff them out in the future by not giving them ANY coverage or thought.
